Why I Rec This Fic: Jupiter really deserve to have this moment, to cry and be comforted. (I am just kind of weak for Hurt/Comfort)

And however strong the idea of genes defining everyone's fate run through his whole being, Stinger was also old enough to know that genes didn't give you experience or confidence. For that you had to fight and struggle and make mistakes, to hurt others and be hurt in return.

There are no benevolent forces in the universe. Even the Aegis is about rules and rights and enforcing those. Property law is property law, and the population of the Earth belongs to the matriarch of the Abrasax family, no matter what name her current body goes by.

Why I Rec This Fic: Lovely world building, that makes me think about the contrast between the private intimacy (of names and homes) and the horrible power (of names and space capitalism) of the Abrasax family.

The other Gas Giants are a a huge grey one (Balem calls it Nintu, and the name it had before is buried in the paperwork of Orus) and a small blue one (Balem let Kalique name this one, when she was still small, and they had not yet become so distant. She named it Merau, and even now it’s storms are so great and wild that even Balem appreciates their might).

Seraphi Abrasax loved her children. The thing is, and this didn't occur to Kalique until long after her mother's death, that she didn't necessarily like them very much.
The slight sneer Jupiter wears while she watches the opulent halls, the statue, the pomp and splendor, matches Seraphi's default expression to a tee.

Why I Rec This Fic: I love the descriptions of the flowers, how it feels like the characters are passionated about it, and how it brings me joy to see people being in love with what they do (#bringyourfandomtowork-fanfiction as someone once called them. This sometimes very niche stories about something the author is passionated and knowlegable about make me fall in love with stuff i never knew (or cared) about before and I like that power. (I was already passionated about nectar source flora before anyway (in german you say Bienenweide =bee meadow which i think sounds way cuter) but my point stands).

“Yes,” she agrees, “but there’s beauty in it and we’re doing a good job adding some of our own. I want to see the gardens.”

She could come back and see him, whenever she wanted (if she wanted), after her first flights. It wasn’t forever, it wasn’t the end, it wasn’t theft or punishment or sundering.
